Why is there no video for session X?
There are a number of possible reasons. The simplest is that the presenter did not give permission. There were also a couple where we lost the video recording one way or another (technical or human error). Some speakers were able to re-record a version and those are published. I’m afraid if you don’t see a video, there is not one available.
Why is there no discussion or videos of roundtables?
We have been advised that these would make permissions far too complicated. Firstly, collecting permission from a presenter is a manageable process and when the site is declared fully open, all videos will be there by explicit permission of the presenter; obtaining permission from each person who spoke during the chat or roundtable would be a huge task.
‘What about a blanket permission from all participants?’ sounds viable initially. But we would need permission from every participant and if one did not reply, we would then have to check all the videos for their input and edit it out. It gets worse: participants have the right to request that their input, likeness and voice be removed in perpetuity. So in five years, when ‘ownership’ of this blog has hopefully passed to the new organisers of TC 2031, they are responsible* for removing every instance of someone’s appearance.
This is erring on the side of caution, and we realise people may well be disappointed, and we ourselves regret this outcome but simply cannot take responsibility (or force others to) for all this.
Why are you not allowing comments on posts?
Comments have to be moderated or we risk having them spammed. Again, this is not something we can take on in the long term.
